A Little Bird Told Me
How about Jack just runs for president? Hell, he's taken the time to craft a thoughtful thank-you, acknowledge the student body, AND produced a list of issues he plans on dealing with...What in the actual fuck has Daley done? Write-in Birmingham for president!

If Jack agrees to run for President, we’d be happy to endorse him.  If Jack wins the Presidency, then Aya will win the Vice Presidency, which is not in the best interest of anybody.  This is the problem of having one good candidate for two positions.

Alternatively, you could vote Jack for President and VP and give him the option of choosing which job he wants.

Message from Jack Birmingham (candidate for VP)

Dear UVM Little Bird & Followers,

The words I type will fail to adequately express my gratitude for your endorsement for my candidacy of UVM’s Student Government Vice-President.  Since I was only elected to SGA in the midterm election earlier this semester, I am an outsider much of the SGA network. I do agree that there is a lack of transparency or communication between SGA & the student body.  If elected as Vice-President, you can expect this to change.

Despite my status as an executive member of the Student Body, and that most of my duties will involve dealing with the administration, I can assure you that you will never feel that I am more a member of the administration than an activist voice for the student body.  Tabling and weekly emails can only do so much.  I plan on holding an open Q & A session once a week at Brennans where students can come up to me directly and address issues they would like to see changed in the administration, SGA function, student/residential life, etc. I am also going to make it a goal not to spend down time in the SGA office and make an effort to show my face in the fishbowl during lunch hours to hear from friends and constituents in an informal setting.  While I cannot promise that I will be able to take action on all the ideas I hear, making myself available to hear the issues is the first step to change.

The defining moment that led to my candidacy came during my first few weeks as an SGA senator.  I ran on the platform of food & meal plan reform, and I knew that if I wanted to see real food reform I would have to hold a more influential office.

Thank you so much UVM Little Bird for your endorsement.  However, students, if you want change it cannot stop here.  Please, join my event on facebook - http://www.facebook.com/events/302793156517224/ , invite all your friends, and encourage them to vote on election day (March 28 @ 8:00 AM - March 29 @ 4:00 PM). I’ve listed the key issues I will address/support as vice-president and I look forward to hearing more from all of you.  Much love, and vote Jack Birmingham for Vice-President to get a strong voice for the student-body on the executive board!

Key Issues:
- Increase Communication & Transparency of SGA
- Sodexo Monopoly
- Local Food & Local Vendors on Campus
- Recycling & Composting Education during Orientation
- Steps Toward Sustainability
- Against Tobacco Ban
- More Options on Roommate Pairing
- Improving First Year Experience

Jack Birmingham

We shortened his message a little bit to get rid of some fluff.

Aya VS Jack

As someone who knows Jack and Aya both, I feel I might be able to shed some light on the VP race. Jack’s a good kid, means well, knows how to have a good time, and is genuinely a good-intentioned candidate. I feel like Aya is doing it more for the position and the fame… I have no idea what she would do to change the SGA. I can’t say I pay much attention to what the SGA does/doesn’t do, though I was pretty disgusted by the email fluke a few weeks ago I must say. I wish they did more to benefit the school, and I feel like Jack might be the fresh kinda guy to get the job done. Aya is a nice girl, means well, but I think we need a more charismatic leader. Jack Birmingham 2013-14 for VP!

Thanks for your submission!

The "Daley Administration" is a mismanaged, underachieving catastrophe and yet...he's running again. Who can I support that is running against him?

Unfortunately, nobody is on the ballot opposing Connor Daley.  He convinced, threatened, or sweet-talked everybody considering running for President out of challenging him.  Running for VP is Aya Al-Namee against Jack Birmingham, and we strongly suggest voting for Jack Birmingham.

We are encouraging every UVM student to Write-In “Big Bird” in the SGA Presidential elections on March 27th-28th.  The SGA is a biased, corrupt system of ‘leadership’ that derives its authority from the under 15% of students who invest their trust in their election process.

If you have no trust in the SGA—the website still has Julian Golfarini listed as President—or are fed up with SGA officials earning $65-$150 per week—Connor still hasn’t explained what really happened with the “email hack”—, or are tired of the culture that students call “bratty” and “oblivious”, make a statement by writing-in “Big Bird” for President on the 27th.

2013’s Fall semester classes are available to see online.  We posted the registration schedule below.

Take our 2-question survey about alcohol on St Patrick’s Day.  What do you drink, if anything? We’ll post the results sometime on Monday.

EDIT: The results to our survey are below.

UVM loses, 53-49

UVM lost by a mere 4 points against Albany in the American East Championship today.

UVM began a recovery in the second half, but failed to catch up to Albany. At the end of the 1st half, the score was 20-28, Albany.

In response to fakes, had one taken away from a friend at RiRa. The guy at the door took about a half of a second to realize it was fake, it was incredible.

RiRa’s is out, too.  Thanks for the submission!

EDIT: Another contributor said that VT Pub and Brewery takes and frames confiscated IDs.

In response to a recent question, I've seen a drawer full of fakes at Ale's

Another contributor told us that there was a “recent temporary closing of Ale’s”, and suggested not to try the bars on St Patrick’s Day with a fake ID.

Speaking of fake ideas... can you ask your followers if they have any experiences with fakes on St. Pattys day? I want to go to bars downtown but they will either be super strict because of the special day or it will be so crazy that they wont care.

Email, Submit, or Tweet us if you have some good St Patrick’s Day stories.  On Saturday, we’ll post them in one monster post, if we get any.

That being said, we wouldn’t suggest trying a fake ID at a bar on St Patrick’s Day. The bars know it’s a big day for fakes and there are more police out than usual.

UVMtv is being evicted from the Davis Center at the end of the semester, and must vacate its space by May 31st, since the club is unable to pay the yearly rent of the space.

LivingWell, which moved into the Davis Center last year, is expected to snatch UVMtv’s space and combine the two spaces into one mega-LivingWell Center.

What is the policy with confiscated fake IDs in Burlington? Do the police do anything with them and fine the owner? Do they get the university involved?

We asked a UVM Police Detective and he emailed us this response:

Here is the VT state civil statue on Counterfeiting, fraud, and misuse:

http://www.leg.state.vt.us/statutes/fullsection.cfm?Title=23&Chapter=005&Section=00203

Post confiscation the ID’s are destroyed. A fine is applicable. See the above link.
As far as the University’s involvement, see this link:

http://www.uvm.edu/policies/student/studentcode.pdf

Section 2, item C, number 10 identifies possessing, providing, distributing, selling, or manufacturing any form of false University, federal, or state issued identification.

So short answer is yes, the University would get involved as possessing fake ID’s is a violation of the UVM Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.

So don’t get caught with a Fake ID. However, the University is usually fairly lenient to first-time offenders.

Does UVM cover up suicides or deaths due to alcohol? Shouldn't the university care a bit more about prevention?
Anonymous

UVM does not explicitly cover up deaths due to suicide.  In 2010, a student named Alexander Chernik was strongly believed to have committed suicide, but the university technically never said he killed himself.  UVM has lots of policies in effect for suicide and alcohol prevention.

If this question was spurred by the recent death of UVM student Jamie Love, his death was announced as a heart arrhythmia uncommon in people this young.
