A Little Bird Told Me
Coke or Pepsi?  Why not both?
The beverage contract has been decided.
Following in the footsteps of the Bottled Water Ban was the decision not to renew the 10-year contract the university had with Coca-Cola, their previous beverage supplier.  Instead the school accepted requests for alternative solutions, considered 3, and settled on Coke and Pepsi.
Gary Derr’s office said that the switch will begin in July and that both Coca-Cola and Pepsi products will be served in the vending machines around campus and in dining halls.  By January 2013, bottled water will also not be sold on campus.
Furthermore, the vending machines must be stocked with at least 33% “defined as healthy choice by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the American Heart Association”.
For the students, it represents an increase in choices, since Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist, Gatorade, Tropicana, Mug Root Beer, Brisk Iced Tea, Propel and other brands will now be offered to students in the coming years.
The new contract lasts until Sodexo’s contract expires at the end of June 2015.
